Dolphins Held to 1-Hit in Noles Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Second-ranked Florida State (11-0) kept its undefeated record intact Monday evening in Jacksonville (6-5) as three Seminole pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout en route to a 2-0 victory over the Dolphins.

The 3,112 fans in attendance inside John Sessions Stadium on Monday night were three outs away from witnessing the ninth no-hitter in Florida State history and the first since February 18, 1998 when Chris Chavez no-hit Charleston Southern in a 13-0 Seminole victory. But JU first baseman Alex Martinez singled back up the middle on a 3-2 pitch off Tyler Everett to lead off the bottom of the ninth for the first Dolphin hit of the game.

FSU vs Jacksonville Preview

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 3 Florida State (10-0) will take its undefeated record on the road for a showdown against Jacksonville (6-4) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8. The Seminoles are coming off a three-game sweep of No. 25 Georgia this past weekend a series in which the Noles outscored the Bulldogs 38-8.

The Dolphins went 2-1 over the weekend posting victories over Wagner (18-8) and James Madison (13-5), while falling to Bethune-Cookman (4-3).

Noles a Perfect 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Third-ranked Florida State (10-0) registered its third series sweep of the season defeating No. 25 Georgia (6-6) 17-5 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. For the 15th consecutive game, the Seminole bats reached double figures in hits with 11, while showing some patience at the plate drawing a season-high 14 walks.

The 12-run victory by the Noles on Sunday tied for the largest margin of victory in the series as the Garnet and Gold defeated the Bulldogs 16-4 back on March 19, 1959.

Nuggets Trip Up Blazers, 118-106

DENVER -- Carmelo Anthony hurt the Portland Trail Blazers with his shooting -- and passing.

Anthony scored 30 points -- his third consecutive game with at least 30 points -- and the Denver Nuggets beat the Trail Blazers 118-106 on Sunday night for their third straight victory.

He also had five of the Nuggets' 31 assists, reflecting the team's determination to incorporate everyone in the offense as a way to help make up for the absence of Kenyon Martin (knee) and Ty Lawson (shoulder).

Avalanche Stomp Blues

DENVER -- Chris Stewart savored his first NHL hat trick, both for what it did for his team and how far it showed he has come since a brief demotion to the minors last October.

Stewart completed the hat trick with a penalty shot, and Milan Hejduk scored twice in his return from a seven-week injury layoff to help the Colorado Avalanche beat the St. Louis Blues 7-3 on Saturday night.
